Rhod Gilbert is joined by fellow comedians after sharing stage four cancer diagnosis

Rhod Gilbert has been supported by his fellow comedians after announcing his stage four cancer diagnosis.

The comedian, 54, revealed he underwent cancer treatment back in July and updated his fans on Sunday (December 11) about his health.

He revealed he was forced to cancel his comedy shows because his symptoms had gotten so severe.

“I had a terrible sore throat, tightness in the neck. I’ve had to cancel shows because I couldn’t breathe,” he told BBC Radio Wales, adding: “I was having all sorts of issues and we couldn’t get to the bottom of it.”

“I’m feeling good and I feel like I’m recovering day by day,” he said.

He then noticed that “lumps were appearing in places they shouldn’t be,” and soon stage four cancer was diagnosed.

“I’m feeling good and feeling like I’m recovering day by day,” said Gilbert.

After the interview, comedians including Jimmy Carr, Rob Brydon, Angela Barnes and Jason Manford shared a post promoting Gilbert’s stand-up DVD. Rhod Gilbert: Book of John.

“Grab the new #RhodGilbert stand up show now! Ready to download, you could be watching and laughing in five minutes,” Manford wrote.

Carr added: “I have a new DVD – not one I’m on but one I bought – it’s from my mate Rhod Gilbert and it’s freakin’ fun. (If you have technology from 10 years ago banging around the house, get the DVD – if not, download like a normal person).”

The comedian had set to bring The Book of John Show was touring in July but had to postpone plans due to the diagnosis. Instead, he turned it into a DVD special.

Glbert’s fans were overjoyed to see the comedy world supporting him and believed they would help promote the DVD as Gilbert was unable to fully do so.

One fan wrote: “All the British comedians doing Rhod Gilbert’s DVD promotion circuit for him are so luscious.”

In an interview with BBC Radio Wales, Gilbert, who has raised funds for the Velindre Cancer Center in Cardiff, said “there’s a lot of humor in his cancer diagnosis” and said: “Hopefully I’ll write it all down and one day bring it to the stage.”
