Anne Arundel, Md. (WJZ) – Anne Arundel County Officers shoot and kill a man in the 900 block of Danville Courthouse early Sunday morning.

The county police said the deadly shooting happened after an officer was “seriously injured” in an altercation that broke out while they were trying to arrest a suspect.

“Yes, it was surprising that I was just walking my dog ​​today and came across a big crime scene,” said Krysti Lantz, of Anne Arundel County.

Anne Arundel County Sheriff said they were called to the 900 block of Danville Courthouse around 4 a.m. to reports of domestic violence.

“A woman who called 911 said her adult son assaulted her and prevented her from leaving the residence,” said Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Department spokeswoman Lt. Jacklyn Davis.

Police arrived at the house and discovered that the front door was locked. The woman who called 911 said she could hear the officers and needed them inside. They entered and went up to a bedroom on the third floor.

“The officers immediately ordered the adult son to the ground. Son obeyed,” Davis said. “However, when the officers arrived to handcuff the son, he started fighting with our officers.”

Police say a task force was deployed but was ineffective.

The injured officers are at a regional trauma center and are in “serious condition,” Davis said.

Anne Arundel County Sheriff Amal Awad is asking the community to keep the families of all involved with their thoughts and prayers.

“These are clearly tough calls that we have to respond to and officers are forced into situations where they have to make important decisions, sometimes very quickly, without realizing it,” Awad said. they have to live their whole life”.
