Report: Pirates to sign C Roberto Perez contract for 1 year | WSAU News / Talk 550 AM · 99.9 FM

The Pittsburgh Pirates have reached an agreement on a one-year contract with defensive-minded captor Roberto Perez, according to reports, a day after the Golden Gloves trade from Jacob Stallings headquarters.

The deal guarantees Perez $5 million, according to ESPN.

Perez, 32, is a player who scored 0.206 in his career and will only hit 0.149 in 2021, but he has won the Golden Glove twice. He spent his entire eight-year career in Cleveland but the team turned down a $7 million option for Perez after last season.

The pirates are in need of a catch after delivering Stallings to Miami to pitcher Zach Thompson and two prospects on Monday.

Perez won the Golden Glove award in 2019 and 2020. Injuries limited him to 44 games last season.
