Report: ‘Incredible’ player to undergo medical at Chelsea in the next 24 hours

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of missing out on the signing of Southampton defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia to Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea.

90 mins report tonight that Southampton defensive midfielder Romeo Lavia has decided to favor Chelsea over Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old Belgium international will undergo a medical at Chelsea in the next 24 hours before making the move to the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed a £55million deal with Southampton for Lavia, described as “…”. “incredible” by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola in the past.

Romeo Lavia chooses between Chelsea and Liverpool

90min have claimed Liverpool also tried to sign Lavia this summer but the former Manchester City candidate has decided he would be better off at Chelsea.

This comes after Liverpool missed out on signing Ecuadorian defensive midfielder Moises Caicedo to Chelsea.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said publicly last week that the Merseyside club had agreed a deal with Brighton and Hove Albion.

However, it is Chelsea who have signed Caicedo and as you can see below, the Blues have also set their sights on Liverpool.

Lavia’s decision to join Chelsea will be a huge blow to Liverpool.

The Merseyside club are on the hunt for a new defensive midfielder in the summer transfer window.

Caicedo and Lavia are very good and promising young players who would have improved under Klopp and at Liverpool.

They would have faced the Reds better and stronger in the middle of the park.

However, neither Caicedo nor Lavia want (or wanted) to join Liverpool in the summer transfer window.

Chelsea would now have a very strong midfield department with Caicedo and Lavia.

Liverpool would now have to try and sign someone else.
