Report: Aston Villa are now closing in on the ‘tech-savvy’ Barcelona player

Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is close to a move to Aston Villa and return to the Premier League.

This is according to a report by mark.

It is claimed that Clement Lenglet’s exit from Barcelona is imminent and that Aston Villa is the club best suited to sign him.

The 28-year-old spent last season on loan at Tottenham Hotspur but a move back to north London now seems unlikely.

However, it appears Lenglet still has a chance of a Premier League return thanks to Villa.

Clement Lenglet need not be a priority for Aston Villa

On paper, Lenglet could be a solid addition to Unai Emery’s squad. He is a very experienced defender who can play at the highest level after appearances for Barcelona and France.

His national team manager Didier Deschamps has described him as a “technical” footballer who is extremely calm on the ball.

Still, Villa doesn’t seem in desperate need of another centre-back at the moment. Tyrone Mings has obviously picked up a serious injury but Emery still has the likes of Pau Torres and Diego Carlos to call on.

If the Spaniard feels there is a need to bring in a new centre-back for extra cover, it could make more sense to sign someone who is less well known and will settle for a squad role.

However, if Emery is looking for a new first-choice midfielder then Lenglet is certainly a good option, especially this late in the transfer window.

From the France international’s point of view, he would get another chance to play in the top league in football and for a team on the rise, so it’s not hard to see why he would like a move to Villa Park.
