Report: Arsenal want ‘fantastic’ ace after price deterred Edu who was Spurs’ ‘top’ target

Arsenal could turn to Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba as rumors circulate about Gabriel Magalhaes’ future.

Edmond Tapsoba could be back on Arsenal’s transfer radar due to the news of Jurrien Timber and Gabriel Magalhaes.

This is according to a report by The Expresswho claim that Arsenal are now considering signing a defender late in the transfer window.

Jurrien Timber suffered a serious knee injury against Nottingham Forest on Saturday and is expected to be out for most of the season.

The Dutchman’s versatility in defense was so important but he now faces a lengthy break on the touchline.

Then there’s the situation with Gabriel, who was oddly left out of the starting line-up against Forest.

The mirror Then it was reported that Gabriel is wanted in Saudi Arabia and Arsenal are aware of the potential move.

It means Arsenal are now considering signing another defender, with Tapsoba apparently high on their target list alongside Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi.

Arsenal target Edmond Tapsoba was wanted by Tottenham Hotspur this summer

Tapsoba, 24, has excelled in the Bundesliga since joining Leverkusen from Vitoria Guimaraes in January 2020.

A tall defender at 1.80m, Tapsoba has shown both his pace and his ability to play the ball from the back out.

The Burkina Faso star has impressed so much that he has now become a prime Premier League transfer target.

Fabrizio Romano reported in July that Tottenham Hotspur see Tapsoba as their top defensive target for the summer.

Romano had also claimed in June that Arsenal wanted Tapsoba but felt it was “too expensive” as Edu and co backed down.

However, the situation has changed as Tottenham have signed Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg instead and Arsenal may have a free hand in signing Tapsoba.

The Gunners would still have to come up with the money, but perhaps selling Folarin would help Balogun – and Gabriel – fund a move.

Tapsoba – celebrated as a “fantastic” player by Leverkusen’s managing director Simon Rolfes – doesn’t have Timber’s versatility and isn’t left-footed like Gabriel, but he’s clearly a defender like Arsenal and could be a focus very soon.
