REBEL Tories joined forces with media luvvies yesterday to scrap plans to sell Channel 4.
Head of the culture committee Julian Knight asked if the sale was “revenge” for “biased reporting.”
Ex leadership hopeful Jeremy Hunt told Times Radio he was “uneasy” about the privatization.
And the creator of Line of Duty Jed Mercury said a sale would “do great damage to domestic creative businesses.”
He continued, “Anything to silence a critical news outlet, and as if it’s worth mentioning earning a few quid for their buddies while they’re at it.”
Ministers announced the £1billion Channel 4 sell-off on Monday.
Worldwide interest is expected for the sale.
Culture Secretary Lord Parkinson told colleagues: “Like the sale of government assets, the sale of Channel 4 would need to be subject to a careful evaluation process to ensure value for money for the taxpayer.”
