Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou said Alejo Veliz could get first-team opportunities in the coming weeks and months.
Ange Postecoglou told it Football.London He said he had been very impressed by Alejo Veliz in training and added that the 20-year-old striker could star for Tottenham Hotspur’s first team.
However, Postecoglou has made it clear that he will not push Veliz to play for Tottenham’s senior team just yet.
The former Celtic manager has hinted that the Argentine striker may need to train a bit more with the first team to get the chance to play for Spurs.
Veliz moved to Tottenham from Argentine club Rosario Central in the summer transfer window.
Ange Postecoglou on Tottenham Hotspur striker Alejo Veliz
Postecoglou said of Veliz: “To be fair he only had one week of training and last week he had two sessions.
“We gave him playing time for the U21s and now he has had a full week of training. It’s great to have him on board, but again there are no expectations of his contribution.
“As he is in the attacking third I think he will get some opportunities for a few seasons, but we still need to let him calm down and get him more consistent in training over the next two or three weeks and give him one or two more games.” U21 because he missed a lot of football but the way he approached things and adapted to life here gave us a lot of encouragement.
“He’s just a young man who comes from the other side of the world. The atmosphere in the dressing room is great and watching him last night he shows his qualities, he has great movement and he’s a real number nine when it comes to the way he attacks the box and I’m really looking forward to it to get him up to speed.”
Alejo Veliz is one for the future
In our opinion, Tottenham Hotspur fans should be patient with Alejo Veliz.
We don’t think Spurs fans should expect the Argentine striker to score goals for fun when he gets his chances.
After all, Veliz is only 20 now.
And he moved to Spurs just a few weeks ago.
Tottenham signed the Argentine with an eye on the future.
We believe that you have to give the striker time and patience.
