Randy Newman cancels European tour after breaking his neck

Randy Newman has postponed several days of his upcoming European tour after breaking his neck.
The musician and satirical writer made the announcement on Wednesday (February 2) on his website, reassuring fans that the scheduled dates will be confirmed “as soon as possible”.
Commenting on his injury, Newman wrote: “Recently, I’ve noticed I’m shrinking. The people that I was taller than me are now taller than me. This is refundable for writing [Newman’s 1977 hit song] ‘Shorty’?
“As it turned out, my neck was broken,” he continued. “I think they operated on me successfully. Even now, I don’t look like an anteater and like a folk rock artist from the early sixties. But the doctor said I wasn’t quite ready to go on tour yet.”
Newman, who is also known for his award-winning work as a composer, added that he is “really looking forward to going to Europe to perform”.
“I missed out on a great performance and I look forward to a time when I can come,” he concluded. “I’m sorry I won’t see you this time, but I’ll see you soon.”
