The cause of his death has not yet been revealed.

Ralph was born and raised in Providence, Rhode Island, before his family moved to New Bedford, Massachusetts.

He is the 5th of 10 brothers and has been a huge success with his 4 younger brothers – Pooch, Chubby, Butch and Tiny – in the band Tavares with songs like Never Had a Love Like This Before.

They began performing in 1959 as Chubby and the Turnpikes, with Ralph joining the band in 1965 after a stint in the Army.

The brothers renamed the group Tavares and took their first number one spot in 1974 with an R&B hit with Hall & Oates ‘She’s Gone.

Tavares had its best year ever in 1975 with the excellent It Only Takes a Minute topping the R&B chart – with the song later covered by Jonathan King and Take That.

They then had a string of hits with Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel, Don’t Take Away the Music, and Whodunit.

Their favorite version of the Bee Gees, More Than A Woman, was even featured on the soundtrack of John Travolta’s iconic movie Saturday Night Fever.

But in 1984, Ralph decided to resign and spent many years working as a court clerk in New Bedford.

In 2013, Ralph reunited with his brothers to perform at the National R&B Music Society Black Tie Gala, in Atlantic City, New Jersey, when they were honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

This is the first time in 37 years they sing together on stage.

Tavares – also known as the Tavares Brothers – were inducted into the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2014.
