Raleigh activists call for arrest of Carolyn Bryant-Donham, deliver eviction papers

RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) – A piece of history recently found in the basement of a Mississippi courthouse has drawn new attention to the death of teenager Emmett Till.

This story? An unfulfilled arrest warrant for Carolyn Bryant-Donham.

More than a week after an unfulfilled warrant relating to the death of Emmett Till was found, a group of activists gathered in Raleigh to call for Carolyn Bryant-Donham’s arrest.

“She lied. Carolyn lied,” said activist and lawyer Malik Shabazz.

He and dozens of other activists delivered eviction papers to two addresses where they believe Donham may live.

On Wednesday they asked Donham to leave the state of North Carolina and surrender.

“She lied to Emmett Till. Her lies and conspiracy with her husband resulted in the horrific death of Emmett Till, whose death was an important spark behind the entire civil rights movement,” Shabazz said.

Activists also said Donham’s allegations that Till whistled at them led to his kidnapping and murder in Mississippi in 1955.

“Carolyn Bryant-Donham is on the run from justice,” Shabazz said. “Carolyn Bryant-Donham ran and hid and evaded justice long enough.”

Shabazz told CBS 17 he plans to be in Mississippi this week to pressure the LeFlore County district attorney to enforce the warrant, which was never served on Donham.
