Rabies warning issued for parts of Punta Gorda after raccoon tests positive

CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – Charlotte County Animal Control has issued a rabies alert for parts of Punta Gorda after a raccoon tested positive for the disease.

Animal officials said the panda was found in the Turbak Drive area in Punta Gorda. Animal Control says rabies warnings have been issued for the following areas:

  1. Turbak Drive and all areas south to Bryan Way
  2. Turbak Drive and all areas north of Boyce . Road
  3. Turbak Drive and all areas west to Lake Jim Long
  4. Turbak Drive and all areas east to Duncan Road

Residents in these areas should report any sick or injured wildlife, any stray pets, and any animals acting unusually. You can call Charlotte County Animal Control at (941) 833-5690.

The rabies warning will be in effect for 30 days, so it will expire on February 26.
