Protester ties himself to the goal post during Everton’s Premier League match against Newcastle United

An environmental protester forced a stoppage of play and took center stage during a Premier League football match on Thursday night.

The man tied himself to a goalpost at Everton’s Goodison Park and wore a bright orange shirt that read ‘Just Stop Oil’. A web address for Facebook page of an ecological group with the same name was written on the shirt in white letters.

He stood with a cable tie around his neck as officers rushed into the area. The football game was suspended for about eight minutes, according to The Mirror.

The protester was identified as 21-year-old student Louis McKechnie, according to sources "Just stop oil."

The protester was identified as Louis McKechnie, a 21-year-old mechanical engineering student with a long history of protesting. The “Just Stop Oil Facebook page documented McKechnie’s trick.

“I’m about to disrupt a football match and I’m terrified,” Louis McKechnie said in video recorded ahead of the game between Everton and Newcastle United.

The campaign will “mobilize people from all walks of life to oppose plans for new UK oil fields in 2022,” according to the Just Stop Oil website.

McKechnie discussed the oil’s negative effects when a video showed his invasion. According to local police, he was arrested on suspicion of assaulting the field.

“I think as many people as possible need to know what a possible future holds,” McKechnie said.

McKechnie was released from prison in January after serving a three-month prison sentence for a separate protest.
