Progressive pol and AOC pick have accumulated traffic violations

An anti-car fanatic running for state legislature has racked up more than two dozen traffic and parking violations since 2019.

Juan Ardila — a Queens progressive pole who is being endorsed by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for the 37th assembly district seat — works in Queens in an Audi Q3 SUV parked illegally at crosswalks and by fire hydrants has received four speed camera violations in the school zone, city records show.

According to records, 28 tickets for the Audi were issued from 2019 to March 25, 2022.

“Like many on the far left, they don’t practice what they preach and they’re just hypocrites,” said Councilman Robert Holden, who defeated Ardila in a main fight last year.

Holden said he frequently saw Ardila’s car parked illegally in his neighborhood. Ardila’s girlfriend lives near Holden.

Juan Ardila will be joined by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in Tuesday's Democratic primary for the 37th Assembly District seat.
Ardila is supported by Rep. Ocasio-Cortez in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for the 37th Assembly District seat.

The violations, first reported by the Queens Post and totaling $2,215, were paid for, according to city records.

But Ardila, 28, apparently believes he is above the law. Just this month, a viewer captured a video of him apparently sitting on his phone texting while driving.

Ardila says he supports the Green New Deal, is shifting more New Yorkers to mass transit and has vowed to be “an advocate for mass transit.”

Ardilas Audi has received 28 tickets in about three years.

AOC supported its search for the Democratic nomination to replace retired Rep. Catherine Nolan, whose district includes Sunnyside, Ridgewood, Long Island City, Astoria, Woodside and Maspeth. Facing three other candidates, he has been backed by StreetsPac, which campaigns for safe roads, saying Ardila wants to expand bike lanes and supports “the 24-hour operation of speed cameras”.

Ardila was also caught using his phone while driving.

“We need to make sure every New Yorker has the opportunity to ride bikes, and we also need to be vigilant and fight the climate crisis that we’re seeing and reduce car culture in our communities,” Ardila said at a recent candidate forum.

Ardila, who works for the Legal Aid Society, was once an employee of another lead-footed cop, Councilman Brad Lander, a longtime member of the Democratic Socialists of America who is now the city inspector and was caught speeding in the school zones eight times in five years.

Ardila apologized last year after The Post revealed he made derogatory online comments about Asians, gays, women and Jews and used the N-word while at school.

Ardila did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
