Pro-choice activist climbs off DC Bridge after 24-hour abortion protest

The man who climbed the Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge in Washington, DC on Friday to protest the Supreme Court’s decision to indict Roe v. Crashing Wade stayed in his position for over 24 hours before climbing down on Saturday afternoon.
The demonstrator, Guido Reichstadter, began climbing the bridge around 10 a.m. on Friday, according to reports FOX 5 DC.
While Reichstadter stood on the bridge, traffic came to a halt while officers tried to reach him.
Reichstadter planned to stay on top of the bridge for as long as possible. As he reached the top of the bridge, his water bottle fell to the ground, leaving him without liquid.
He was taken into police custody after exiting the bridge archway on Saturday afternoon, according to a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department.
Reichstadter hopes the stunt will inspire civil disobedience nationwide in response to the Supreme Court ruling.
“If I can make it to the top of that ever loving bridge, I know you can make it onto the road!” he tweeted Friday. “Let’s close it down non-violently day by day until our rights are protected. I’ll be up here, love to you all!”

According to the police, traffic on the bridge was reopened to the public on Saturday afternoon.
The archway of the bridge is 70 feet high.
In a tweet asking for help with the “non-violent civil resistance movement for abortion rights,” Reichstadter hinted at how his protest is likely to end.

“I will be in jail soon but look forward to making contact when I get out,” he wrote.
