Prince William subtly hits back at Michael Sheen in Qatar World Cup series

Prince William has announced that he will support both England and Wales at the World Cup in Qatar.

On a recent visit to the Welsh Parliament, the Prince of Wales Elin Jones, Llywydd of the Senedd, said he would support “both” teams at Fifa 2022, which starts on November 20.

“I tell everyone that I definitely support both. I can’t lose,” William said (via The Herald).

“I’ve supported England since I was quite little but I support Welsh rugby and that’s my way of doing it. I am happy to support Wales ahead of England in rugby.”

Williams’ comments come shortly after Michael Sheen criticized him for handing out shirts to the Three Lions during a surprise visit.

On Monday (November 14) the England World Cup team tweeted a video of William giving the team a royal farewell.

“He can of course support whomever he wants and as Pres of FA his role makes the visit understandable – but surely he finds it totally inappropriate to also hold the title of Prince of Wales?” Sheen replied.

“No hint of embarrassment? Or sensitivity to the problem here?”

The Welsh actor is deeply patriotic and has been vocal in his criticism of the royals. He is also a fervent supporter of the Wales national football team who are due to play the USA national football team in the first round of the World Cup on 21 November.

In September, Sheen denounced King Charles for visiting Wales on Owain Glyndwr Day following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

England will play Iran in the first round on the same day.

This year’s World Cup begins on November 20th, with the final taking place on December 18th.
