The pair have previously spoken about the importance of having a private security detail. Now it’s reported that Harry wanted royal police protection for Meghan from an early age and decided the best way to get her was to marry her as soon as possible. Here’s more.
Prince William thought Harry was acting too quickly by marrying Meghan so quickly
Prince Harry and Meghan started dating in 2016 and in November 2017 the world found out that they were engaged. Some never saw a problem with that time frame, but Harry’s brother, Prince WilliamHe’s not one of those people.
The Duke of Cambridge dated Kate Middleton for several years before proposing, so William thought Harry was moving too quickly with Meghan and reportedly told his siblings not to rush things. According to biography find freedomby Carolyn Durrand and Omid Scobie, this advice is said to have enraged the younger prince, who was appalled that he was getting the support he wanted from his older brother.
Harry reportedly said, “The best way to protect her is to marry her”
To express noted that Tina Brown was writing The Palace Papers: At the House of Windsor – The Truth and the Turmoil and spoke to over 120 who know the senior royals Williams’ initial concerns with Meghan and Harry got engaged in 2017. She says she was told that one of the reasons Harry was so determined to marry Meghan so quickly was because he saw it as the easiest way to get her police protection.
Brown’s sources claim Harry replied to William by saying he wanted Meghan to get the police protection she would be entitled to if they got married.
In her book, Brown writes: “To his brother’s concerns, Harry’s response can be summarized as follows: ‘Well, actually, the best way I can protect her is to marry her as soon as possible, because as soon as I marry her, she gets it then police protection.’”
Police protection is a bit of a concern for the Sussexes following their retirement
Meghan received that royal police protection when they married but lost it when she and the Duke of Sussex stepped down as senior royals. Since living in America, the two have to finance their own private security.
The security they pay for today is something Harry wants when he and his family travel to England. However, the Daily Mail reported: “When Harry left The Firm, the terms [of his exit] were clear. Like other members of the public, he and his wife cannot hire armed police officers at will – no matter how much they offer to pay.” Therefore, the security that the Sussexes have in the US cannot be replicated in the UK because the people do not allowed to take to the streets with guns.
