Police shot dead a man with a knife inside a Florida university dormitory Friday night, authorities said.
According to a Press Release from the Melbourne Police Department (MPD).
Melbourne Police responded to the campus at around 10:40pm after reports of an armed man “assaulting a student”, police said. “Melbroune officers and FIT security forces entered the building and were confronted by a man armed with a bladed weapon.”
According to police, a 5-year MPD veteran was injured when the suspect lunged at him with a weapon.
The suspect was identified as a second-year student studying aviation science, FIT said on Facebook. Authorities have not identified a motive.
“The isolated incident resulted in an officer-involved shooting where the suspect was killed,” the FIT said in a statement. declare On Facebook. “No one else was seriously injured, there is no other threat to the campus.”
Florida Law Enforcement is investigating, police said.
