Police identify six Virginia Walmart employees killed in mass shooting
The six people killed inside a Virginia Walmart were identified by police on Wednesday as employees who were ruthlessly gunned down by their manager at the large retail store.
The Chesapeake Police Department identified the fatal victims as 38-year-old Brian Pendleton from Chesapeake; 52-year-old Kellie Pyle of Chesapeake; 43-year-old Lorenzo Gamble of Chesapeake; 70-year-old Randy Belvins of Chesapeake; 22-year-old Tyneka Johnson from Portsmouth; and a 16-year-old boy from Chesapeake – whose name is being withheld due to his age, WAVY reported.
The shooter, night shift manager Andre Bing, took his own life after the senseless carnage on Tuesday night.
Briana Tyler, who started working for the Chesapeake store two months ago, told ABC News that just before 10:15 p.m. Bing entered the store’s break room and opened fire as employees prepared to close their night shift start.
“He’s not targeting anyone specifically,” Tyler said. “He literally started shooting all over the break room and I could see several people just falling to the ground, whether trying to duck for cover or getting hit.”
Three of the people, including Bing, were found dead in the store’s break room, according to law enforcement, while a deceased victim was in the front of the store.
Three other victims were taken to local hospitals for further treatment but succumbed to their injuries, police said.
It’s not clear what sparked the murderous rampage, but colleagues described Bing as “difficult, mean, and paranoid.”
“He always said the government was watching him. He didn’t like social media and kept black tape on his phone camera,” Shaundrayia Reese, who worked with Bing for three years, told CNN.
“Everyone always thought there was something wrong with him,” she added.
On Wednesday, police searched the house where Bing is said to have lived and forced down the door.
