Police find the decomposing body of a 6-year-old boy under the floor at his mother’s Arkansas home

Arkansas police on Friday found the decomposing body of an abused 6-year-old boy buried under the hallway floor of his mother’s home.

Special agents made the gruesome discovery around 11 p.m. in Moro, a town about 70 miles east of Memphis, Tennessee.

“Based on initial evidence, it is believed that the boy may have died three months ago from injuries sustained at home,” the Arkansas Department of Public Safety said.

The child’s sister, also 6, who lived at the home, was taken to hospital with burns to her scalp, police said. She is in stable condition

The children’s mother, Ashley Roland, 28, and Nathan Bridges, 33, were arrested and both charged with capital murder, molesting a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and endangering the welfare of a minor.

The children’s grandmother, Karen, had reportedly been “trying to get custody of the children for over a year,” claims a GoFundMe set up by a friend. After months of working the right ways, Karen received a court order this week to see the kids on the weekends.

A visit from the grandmother may have led to the discovery of her grandson’s body.

“She came to get her grandchildren … on Friday and was told the youngest was at a friend’s house and the eldest could not walk,” Anita Widby wrote.

Karen immediately rushed the girl to the hospital after seeing her deteriorating condition. The child’s hair was cut off and her body was covered with multiple burns in various stages of healing, Widby said. The girl was malnourished and had broken ribs.

“These injuries are probably from her mother and her mother’s boyfriend,” Widby said of Roland and Bridges.

Later that day, police notified Karen that her grandson’s body had been found.

The public prosecutor will determine how the boy died in the coming weeks.
