NYPD investigators said Thursday they are looking for a 14-year-old in connection with the fatal shooting of 11-year-old Kyhara Tay in the Bronx.
Tay was hit by a stray bullet while standing outside a nail salon in Foxhurst around 5pm on Monday, police said.
Detectives believe the shots were fired at another teenager from a scooter being driven by the 14-year-old man near Westchester Avenue and Fox Street, sources said.
An 18-year-old is said to have also been in the vehicle and was also wanted for questioning, according to the sources.
The suspect’s bullet missed its intended target, hitting Tay, who was a block and a half away waiting for a family member to emerge from the salon, officials said.
“She was a promising young life brought to an end by mindless gunmen firing at a target without regard for others,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said Wednesday at the scene of the Kyhara shooting.
“To the individuals – and I’m speaking directly to the cowards who did this on Monday, okay?” Clark said. “Those who shot and killed Kyhara, I want you to know that as the Bronx District Attorney, we’re coming for you.
A $10,000 reward has been offered in connection with information leading to an arrest.
