Airport travel has yet to return to pre-pandemic levels. It is down about 25-35%, but it will definitely increase compared to 2020.
Many people flying at this time of year are traveling with gifts and homemade food. Marty Robinson, TSA federal security director for Minnesota, shared what’s acceptable and what he recommends about effectively getting yourself and your gifts through security.

“When people are going through this process, we hope they don’t wrap presents,” says Robinson. “You’d better put them in a holiday bag because if there’s a suspicious item inside or it warns us, we have to open it. So the holiday bag is the way to do it, or make the package on the other side. ”
Roy Fuhrmann is the COO of the Municipal Airport Commission.
“We know there will be busy times, especially early in the morning. We only ask passengers to arrive early,” said Fuhrmann. “We recommend around two hours for domestic flights and three hours for international flights.”
As an added safety precaution, most MSPs are non-contact. You can order food delivered to your gate through the Navigate MSP app.
You can also reserve your parking space in advance and save up to $7 a day during the holiday travel season.
