(CNN) – Brian Flores, the former head coach of the Miami Dolphins, who applied Racism lawsuit against NFLwas hired by the Pittsburgh Steelers as an assistant coach.
“We have appointed Brian Flores as our senior defensive assistant/back,” the Steelers said Saturday in a tweet announcing head coach Mike Tomlin’s hiring.
“I’m excited about Brian Flores joining our coaching staff because of his history of developing and teaching defensive players during his time in the NFL,” Tomlin said. “Brian’s resume speaks for itself and I look forward to him adding his expertise to help our team.”
Flores, 40, sued the Dolphins organization along with the NFL and two other NFL teams alleging racial discrimination.
The 58-page lawsuit rebukes the NFL’s culture and the Rooney Rule, which requires teams to interview two outside minority candidates for head coach positions. The lawsuit says the rule did not increase hiring of coaches of color.
The rule is named after the late Dan Rooney, the longtime chairman of the Steelers.
The Miami Dolphins fired Flores at the end of the regular season, after placing 24-25 in his three seasons as head coach.
