Pink honors Olivia Newton-John with a “devoted” 2022 AMAs song

Pink received a standing ovation at the 2022 American Music Awards for honoring the late Olivia Newton-John with a moving performance of Hopeless Devoted To You.

The 43-year-old “F**kin Perfect” singer took to the stage for a second time on Sunday night to pay tribute to 10-time AMA winner “Grease.”

Pink was singing her heart out on a small stage in front of the main stage when a montage of Newton John photos appeared on the screen behind her.

She was wearing a long, baby pink tight dress with feather sleeves and a skirt when the camera panned to footage of the crowd singing along.

Newton-John died August 8 after a year-long battle with breast cancer. She was 73.

The Australian legend has been battling breast cancer publicly since 1992, surviving a partial mastectomy, nine months of chemotherapy and breast reconstruction.

She became an advocate for breast cancer detection and was re-diagnosed in 2013 but fought it privately, only revealing in 2018 that she had come back in 2017.

“I met her maybe three times — and she was an absolute angel,” Pink recalled of the “Physical” singer on Instagram after her death. “One of the loveliest, kindest lights from within I’ve ever met. friendliness personified. May she rest in peace and her family be held in love and light during this difficult time.”

Earlier in the evening, Pink opened the show with her new single, ‘Never Gonna Not Dance Again’, off her forthcoming album Trustful, which is available to pre-order now and is out on February 17th.

Other 2022 AMA cast members included Carrie Underwood, Imagine Dragons, Yola, Dove Cameron, Lil Baby, Anitta and Bebe Rexha.

To round out the evening, 17-time AMA winner Lionel Richie received the Icon Award as Charlie Puth and Stevie Wonder set the stage for a performance dedicated to Richie’s career.
