Piers Morgan comments on Jeremy Clarkson’s Meghan Markle column for The Sun

Piers Morgan has spoken out in a national newspaper about Jeremy Clarkson’s controversial tirade about Meghan Markle.

In an op-ed for The sunPosted on Dec. 16, Clarkson wrote that he detests the Duchess of Sussex “on a cellular level” and wants people to “pelt clots of excrement” at her.

The article has since been removed from the publication’s website after the column became the Independent Press Standards Organization’s most-complained article.

Clarkson himself has received significant backlash, with a number of celebrities and public figures condemning his remarks.

Morgan weighed in on the debacle, writing on Twitter: “Imagine if everyone screaming in anger at Jeremy Clarkson felt the same protective rage towards those who have branded our royal family as callous, lying, racist bullies – without presenting any actual evidence to support Cruel allegations?”

In a later post, the former Good morning Britain The anchor clarified that while he “does not defend what Clarkson wrote,” he asks “where is the same anger at the lies/slanders being hurled at the royal family.”

Morgan has had his own share of Markle controversies. In March 2021, his on-air comments casting doubt on Markle’s extensive interview with Oprah Winfrey sparked fury.

He told viewers at the time that he “didn’t believe a word” the Duchess of Sussex said of suicidal thoughts during her time as a senior royal and later dubbed her the “Pinocchio princess” on social media.

He stormed off the set the next day after weather presenter Alex Beresford criticized him for “continuing to destroy” Markle.

Morgan promptly announced his exit from the program, saying, “On Monday I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview. I’ve had time to think about this opinion and I still don’t have time,” he wrote.

“If so, okay. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on. Thanks for all the love and hate. I now spend more time with my opinion.”
