(Reuters) – California-based utility PG&E Corp is partnering with US automaker Ford Motor Co to offer its customers bi-directional charging electric vehicles, the utility’s chief executive said on Thursday.
“Today we are announcing our partnership with Ford Motor Co to offer PG&E customers bi-directional charging vehicles, specifically the Ford F-150 Lightning,” said Patti Poppe at the CERAWEEK conference in Houston.
The pilot program will test how the Lightning electric pickup truck can interact with the grid to support electrical reliability by providing backup power to customers’ homes in the utility’s service area, PG&E said.
