WASHINGTON (AP) – Pfizer says its testing COVID-19 The pill seems to be effective against the omicron variant.
The company also confirmed on Tuesday that the delivered pill promises early results in reducing COVID-19 hospitalization and death.
The updates come as US regulators are expected to soon decide whether to allow the Pfizer pill and a competing drug from Merck.
If allowed, the pills will be the first pill COVID-19 drugs that Americans can use at home to treat the virus.
Pfizer is seeking US approval for high-risk adults but is also studying the drug in lower-risk adults.
The company said the drug missed an important research goal during its ongoing trial on those patients.
