Pfizer applies for COVID-19 boost approval for 16 and 17 year olds: report

(Hill) – Pfizer and BioNTech are reportedly seeking approval for their COVID-19 vaccine booster shots for 16- and 17-year-olds.

People familiar with the company’s plans said washington articles that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to promptly approve the company’s request for additional injections.

Currently, Americans 18 years of age and older are eligible for a booster shot six months after a second dose of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or two months after a single dose of Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The boost eligibility expansion comes as concerns arise around the mounting of the new omicron variant.

In Monday, President Biden said omicron “A cause for concern, not a cause for panic,” and that lock the door to solve it unnecessary.

“On Thursday, I will lay out a detailed strategy outlining how we will fight COVID this winter, not with shutdowns or shutdowns but with broader vaccinations, boosters , testing and more,” Biden said.

Last week, in a statement on the variation, Biden touted booster shots and encouraged those who qualify to get additional doses.
