Peter Jackson considered hypnosis to forget ‘Lord of the Rings’

Peter Jackson considered going to great lengths to forget all about The Lord of the Rings.

The director told The Hollywood Reporter that he “seriously considered” using hypnosis to forget about all of his work on the film series.

But his reasons for wanting to erase his memories weren’t because of bad experiences — he just wanted to experience the films as a regular fan.

“When we were making ‘The Lord of the Rings’ movies, I always felt like I was the unlucky person who never got to see a coming out of the blue movie,” said Jackson, 60. ” When there were demonstrations, I was immersed in them for five or six years. It was such a loss for me not to be able to see her like everyone else.”

“I’ve actually seriously considered going to a hypnotherapist to hypnotize myself so I can forget about the movies and the work I’ve done over the past six or seven years so I can sit and enjoy it “, he continued.

While Jackson was not performing the hypnosis, he spoke to British mentalist Derren Brown, who thought he could make the memories go away.

However, given all the time and effort Jackson has put into the details of the franchise, it seems unlikely that he’ll ever see his films as a first-time viewer.

Jackson added that he’s enjoying Amazon’s new series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power as a fan — considering he’s unaffiliated.

The director noted that Amazon originally asked him to get involved and offered to send him scripts, but they never went any further.

The Rings of Power is set to take place 1,000 years before the events of The Lord of the Rings. The show premieres on September 2nd on Prime Video.
