The couple appeared on Tonight’s Show with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday (December 9), where they revealed the origin of the squid. Davidson said it came at a “very dark time in our lives”.
In an appearance on Saturday night live in 2017, the pair appeared in a sketch as rapping “baby traps,” ending with the pair saying the words: “We’re babies.”
“We got dressed as kids, everything seemed fun and okay,” says Cyrus. “For some reason, we looked at each other and said, ‘That’s a great tattoo…we’re doing this.’
“And then we did,” Davidson said, explaining that his artist got to 30 Rock, which Cyrus said should have been a sign that everything was just “a sketch.”
“And then I burned all my mines, and you’re still yours,” Davidson said.
The “Wrecking Ball” singer says she only learned that Davidson was dropped after he start the process of getting rid of all her tattoos for an ad.
“He was drinking Smartwater and removing his tattoos… and I said, “Wait a minute. That’s right where ‘we were the kids’, she said, showing she still had the tattoo on her leg, while the Davidson on his wrist was much more faded.
“It’s not an infant,” Davidson joked.
