Dual-vaccinated persons should have lateral flow tests performed daily for one week after exposure. Coronavirus case.
The new measure goes into effect on Tuesday and applies to all variants of the Covid-19 , said the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).
The government says those who test positive or develop symptoms will need to self-isolate.
Unvaccinated people must continue to self-isolate for 10 days if they come into contact with the virus, the DHSC said.
Health Secretary Javid Javid said: “The omicron variant is rapidly gaining popularity in the UK and is expected to become the dominant strain by mid-December.
“We are taking this more commensurate and practical measure to limit the impact on people’s daily lives while helping to reduce the spread of Omicron.
“Vaccines are still our best defense and I urge anyone who hasn’t had their first and second shots to go ahead and those who are eligible for the vaccine to get a booster as soon as possible. the better.”
