PAUL WOOLSTON posed with Manchester United goalkeepers at Carrington on the day he was forced to retire aged 23.
And Woolston was greeted by United current senior stopper when he visited Carrington on Thursday.
David de GeaDean Henderson, Tom Heaton and Lee Grant all posed for a touching picture with a smiling Woolston.
The North Shields native joined United from Newcastle in 2018.
And he made several appearances for the U23s before an injury ended his career.
United’s senior goalkeepers expressed their sadness at Woolston hanging up his gloves at such an early age.
And everyone wished the youngster all the best for his next career step.
De Gea said: “Well, it’s always bad when someone has to retire at a young age.
“It was sad. I trained with him when he was fit and this is very sad news.
“I wish him all the best. He’s a great boy, a great goalkeeper and we all really feel sorry for him.”
Henderson noted, “It’s devastating for himself and for all of us around him.
“He will always be welcome here. I hope he will walk around the academy for a bit and hopefully share his experiences.
“I think he has a lot to give to the football club in the future.”
Heaton revealed: “It’s a tough moment. It can’t be pretty when you reach the point where you have to retreat.
“He has support from the entire football club, especially from the goalkeeping department, and of course I wish him all the best.”
Grant added: “I was so, so impressed with the way he carried himself through it all.
“I think for him and his situation there are two things that he has on his own. One is personality but two he is an intelligent young man.
“I’m really positive about that. I know it can be a bit discouraging for him at that moment but surely the people I spoke to at the football club will have that support too.”
