Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court recently quashed Democratic Governor Tom Wolf’s mandate to wear a school mask.

On Friday, the state court ruled the governor and his health secretary did not have the authority to issue a proxy. The lawsuit was brought by a group of parents, school districts and Republican lawmakers.

A representative for the State Department of Health called the ruling “disappointing,” saying that the children were forced to wear masks designed to keep them safe.

“The government recognizes that many school districts want to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment for students and staff, and we expect them to make appropriate mitigation decisions going forward, Wolf spokeswoman Beth Rementer said.

Republicans, however, disagree and say the mandate is divisive and that parents should be free to decide what’s best for their child.

Senator Doug Mastriano (R-Pa.) said: “Parents and legal guardians have the right to gather facts and decide what they consider to be in the best interest of their child.
