According to Oakland County Executive David Coulter, the suspected shooter is being held in a juvenile detention facility.
He has been placed on suicide watch and someone checks on him every 15 minutes.
The suspect is a 15-year-old sophomore, a resident of Oxford Village. He was not injured in the shooting and his name cannot be identified because he is a juvenile.
Because of his age, he has not been charged as an adult.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the weapon was purchased on November 26 by the boy’s father.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard held a news conference Tuesday night
called the shooting “the worst kind of tragedy.”
Bouchard responded to rumors that someone had known about the shooting. “None of that has come to us before today… it’s the kind of thing we need to achieve and be repeated.
He urged community members to contact the Sheriff’s office by phone or email to provide tips on rumors of crime or any potential threats.
The shooter is said to have posted photos of a gun before the shooting that Bouchard said appeared similar to the weapon used in the shooting.
