As the curtain falls on a divisive Overwatch 2 beta, some believe Orisa’s makeover has completely changed the character — and not for the better.
As the sun sets on a rather controversial Overwatch 2 inaugural beta, Blizzard has been sent back to the drawing board with its tail between its legs.
One of the characters that received significant updates was Orisa, the lovable robotic tank that manages to put a smile on your face even when your team is completely wiped out.
However, her changes haven’t exactly been a hit with many, as the entire character of the Defender of Numbani appears to have morphed into something much more aggressive, leading some to believe that she would have been better off if Blizzard had her rework for the Creation would have used a whole new Overwatch 2 character.
Players beat Overwatch 2 Orisa Rework
As the dust settles on a tumultuous first beta, players have been quick to voice their concerns about Orisa’s new role Reddit.
“I think Orisa’s ‘rework’ should have been a hero all its own,” writes one fan. “Pretty much the only thing they kept from their original design is their silhouette. They even completely changed their character’s behavior. Her new lines are so aggressive if that’s not what her character is supposed to be.
“Her playstyle (and worse, her character) has been completely removed from the game. I think Orisa’s ‘rework’ would have been better as its own separate hero and would have allowed Orisa to keep her current kit.”
Leaning on the idea that Overwatch’s global roster doesn’t include a Greek character, they note, “A lot of people see the idea of a Greek hero as an uncharted niche with potential. Having an anachronistic Greek warrior brandishing and throwing spears with a ferocious stance pretty much writes itself. They didn’t have to destroy the existing Orisa to add this new kit and personality to the game.”
If we conclude that the character was “completely erased,” it’s clear that these new changes weren’t exactly what fans were hoping for.
“I wonder if she was too strong? Because you’re right that she had so many abilities that I’m sure she’ll be repurposed into another hero,” read one reply. “I feel like there’s a world where both the Orisa Anchor Tank and the Javelin Tank Hero exist.”
“To be fair she’s a robot so you’d assume she’s very adaptable,” countered another, with a final comment suggesting, “I have a simpler idea and one that would fit a growing kid.” Efi was young when she made Orisa and that reflects in her personality, but as she got older? She decided Orisa needed an upgrade to stay cool. So she became more mature, a bit more aggressive and more weapons. She’s still protective, but she’s also more of a badass who can fight.”
Whether you love or hate her new kit, it looks like this version of Orisa is likely to be here to stay. If Blizzard hears the community dissatisfaction, they might consider a brand new Greek hero (we all know Overwatch needs some fresh blood), but we’ll just have to wait and see.
