Overwatch 2 is down due to DDoS attack, Blizzard confirms

surveillance 2 has repeatedly gone down for many players due to two DDoS attacks that took place during launch day. This has led to server issues that Blizzard Game Director Aaron Keller has confirmed the team is actively working on.

DDoS attacks bring down Overwatch 2 on release day

Keller shared the unfortunate news on Twitter, noting that the Overwatch 2 team is “making progress on server issues and stability, and working through a second DDoS attack.” The perpetrators of the DDoS attack have not been named, although online stability has remained sporadic at the time of writing this article.

What is a DDoS attack?

A DDoS attack is a distributed denial of service attack in which attackers overwhelm a targeted server, service, or network with essentially spoofed traffic. In this case, Overwatch 2’s servers have been flooded with these fake users, meaning other players can’t get online and the game’s servers are collapsing under the pressure.

Aside from the DDoS attack, the Overwatch 2 launch has proved popular as new players have to wait in long queues to access the online shooter’s sequel.

Hopefully Blizzard can fix these teething problems and players can get into the newly released game sooner rather than later.
