Outlander’s upcoming twist presents a breathtaking “creative challenge”.

So how was that for a mid-season finale? Developed by Ronald D. Moore and based on Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander novels, the historical drama has reached a point where every episode feels undeniably significant.
First premiered on Starz in 2014, Outlander tells the story of a former World War II military nurse who is kidnapped from 1945 to 1743 Scotland. Promoted over the years, it has developed into one of the networks most passionate fandoms.

However, the arrival of Season 7 felt like a bittersweet cause for celebration as it was confirmed to be the final series of episodes. What’s even more bittersweet is how incredible it’s been so far.
The mid-season finale marked a climax on Friday, August 11, and “Turning Points” gave the audience plenty to digest.
In the episode, we learn that Rob has discovered Roger and Brianna’s knowledge of time travel and is determined to strike gold and kidnap Jemmy in the process. Roger reacts immediately and harnesses the power of a gem to go in search of them.
Well, for those who haven’t read the books yet and want to jump into the second half of Season 7 completely fresh, be warned that this means a twist for the episodes to come…

Well, here we are, but where’s Roger? It turns out that Roger and Buck have traveled three decades further in the past than they had planned in the upcoming installment.
Of course, this opens up many challenges, but also incredibly exciting casting opportunities. In fact, it’s already been confirmed that some faces from the series’ past will be returning, with some original stars reprising their beloved roles.
It’s all incredibly exciting, but executive producer Maril Davis has touched on how the ambitious decision to juggle three schedules “was really tough,” and it’s not exactly hard to see why.
“At the beginning of this season we were like, ‘Oh, wow, at some point we’re going to have three different periods. How are we supposed to do that?’” she said explained during an interview with Insider.
Given that Outlander is “usually a tough show for the art and costume departments,” Season 7 proved an even more daunting achievement.
On the other hand, she revealed, “This creative challenge has actually opened us up to some of these really interesting changes,” and of course we can’t wait to see what those changes might be.
A release date has yet to be announced, but it has already been confirmed that the second half of the final season will premiere sometime in 2024, hopefully sooner rather than later.
Maril is clearly on the same page, commenting that the release “hopefully won’t take too long”.
