Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta raves about Gunners midfielder Mohamed Elneny.
Mikel Arteta said Arsenal defensive midfielder Mohamed Elneny is the glue for the team.
Arteta commented on the Egypt Internationall as he gives an update on his injury.
The 31-year-old has been on the pitch since suffering a serious knee injury during training in January 2023.
Mikel Arteta on Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny
Arsenal manager Arteta said Elneny was back training with the team and stressed the importance of the £55,000-a-week (Spotrac) Midfielder who rarely plays even when fit.
Arteta said about Elneny, as quoted in Football.London: “He trained with us, a few weeks ago he had a slight soreness in his hamstrings and now he is back in training.
“Obviously it’s a long-term injury. The final phases of this rehab are about building momentum and using it to gain playing time.
“I’ve always said that he’s our link player, he’s the one who brings everyone together, keeps everyone together, he’s a really important player in the squad for me and I’m happy to have him.”
Mohamed Elneny is a squad player for Arsenal under Mikel Arteta
In our opinion, Mohamed Elneny will never become an important player for Arsenal under manager Mikel Arteta, at least not on the pitch.
Arsenal have enough good midfielders.
While Elneny has performed well for the Gunners in the past, he is now nothing more than a squad player at the north London club.
It’s harsh but true.
Elneny has played 88 Premier League games so far in his career.
The Egyptian midfielder has scored one goal and provided five assists in these games.
The 31-year-old has been at Arsenal since 2016 and spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Besiktas.
Elneny is under contract with Arsenal until the summer of 2024.
Before his injury last season, the midfielder managed just one start and four substitute appearances in the Premier League, while Elneny made eight starts and six substitute appearances in the league for Arsenal in the 2021/22 season.
