Our bathroom has been leaking for 7 YEARS with water everywhere

One COUPLE said their bathroom had been leaking for seven years with water everywhere – they’ve now been moved to three different hotels for three weeks pending repairs.

Eithne Crowson, 69, and her husband, Martin, 70, said problems with their apartment began six years ago when a shower and wet room were installed.

Martin explained that work on building the bathroom was completed in 2015 but it has “slowly leaked in there since”.

“Nobody can tell where it came from,” he said.

He added that they took their Manchester floor and put it down again – but the leak continued.

“All the walls were wet. We couldn’t figure out where the mold was coming from and why it wasn’t dry,” he said.

Then it got to the point that whenever someone was taking a shower, the apartment would start to “fill up with water”.

The floor in the lobby was also damaged, the wallpaper and Martin’s stamp collection.

Now they’ve finally been able to diagnose the leak and fix it, but it was their three weeks in three hotels – and eventually an apartment without a kitchen – that led them to call their housing company “carefree”.

In December, the retired couple were moved to a Travelodge and Premier Inns in Salford and Manchester while leaks and water damage in their flats were repaired.

Eithne claims they paid for her own food in Travelodge.

“We had to pay for our own food there, there was no way to cook. Then they put us in the Premier Inn in the Quays – they paid for our food there.” she told the Manchester Evening News.

They don’t have a pot to start with – and she claims she’s been asked to cook ready meals in the microwave.

“They confused us,” says Eithne.

Martin, a veteran, her husband, said: “They treat us like absolute people. They don’t have a heart at all.

“None of them have any hearts.

“They don’t have a clue, they don’t vent, they’re completely heartless.”

A spokesperson for Pendleton Together said: “Pendleton Together understands the challenges tenants, especially elderly tenants, face when it comes to home repairs and this is always something we take into consideration. Top.

“We have provided significant support to Ms. Crowson to help her overcome these difficulties and continue to engage in dialogue with her to provide additional reassurance.

“We’re sorry she found the experience so sad, and we’re always open to feedback on ways we can improve our support.”

Pendleton Together said they initially offered to move Ms. Crowson to a new apartment, but she asked to be moved to a hotel instead.

A spokesman added: “We have arranged for a hotel with breakfast and dinner to be provided, where she will stay for a number of days before returning home.

“Unfortunately, it took more time to finish the work, so she couldn’t stay at home.

“Miss Crowson didn’t think the alternative hotel would be a good fit, so we identified an apartment and used a professional moving company to move existing content in her home.

“Unfortunately, her stove couldn’t be moved, so we bought a new one for her.

“Unfortunately, this means she has two days where she needs to rely on the microwave to cook while the new one is purchased and installed.”
