“I don’t even think about it that way — and some actors try to be humble, like, ‘I don’t think about awards that way, I care about work and I focus on work,’ you know, that’s it not,” Smith said.
Everyone involved has enforced a pandemic shutdown to complete the film, but the role has proven to be a godsend for Anjanue Ellis, who is now entertainment reporter Sandy Kenyon of Eyewitness News’ choice to win Best Supporting Actress, but she once thought that fame would never come to her .
“I wouldn’t have enjoyed it as much 10 years ago, you know what I mean, like the fruit wasn’t that sweet to me,” Ellis said.
Tenacity and perseverance also played a part in Troy Kotsur’s bid to become the first deaf person to win the Best Supporting Actor award.
“If I win the award, I’ll sleep with it in my bed,” he said.
His film is called “Coda”, which stands for “Child of Deaf Adult”. In this case, the main character is a music student who can hear and is raised by her parents who can’t.
Kenyon says this is a film that hits the mood of the moment – lifts us up and warms our hearts.
