Oscar Isaac: Moon Knight Marvel Star Explains Why He Found Filming X-Men: Apocalypse ‘Excruciating’

Oscar Isaac has spoken candidly about his experiences filming X-Men: apocalypsewhich he used to describe as “excruciating”.

The actor played the villain in Bryan Singer’s 2016 superhero flop and wore blue makeup and prosthetics to bring the character to life.

said Isaac GQ 2018 that it was the makeup and prosthetics that took away from his enjoyment of filming, as he “didn’t know when I said yes that was going to happen.”

The actor spoke about the experience in a new interview The New York Timeswho asked him if he would go so far as to “deny” the film.

“No, I’m not denying it,” Isaac said, adding, “I know exactly what I wanted to do there and why. There were these great actors involved that I really wanted to work with, [James] McAvoy and [Michael] Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence. Growing up I collected X-Men and I loved Apocalypse, I just thought he was such a wacky weird character.

“And then you get there and you’re like, ‘Oh my God, I’ve got all these prosthetics on. I’m wearing a suit. I can not move. I can’t see anyone All these actors that I wanted to work with – I can’t even see who they are.’”

Isaac said he “still has fond memories of that time,” saying, “I wish it had been a better movie and they’d taken a little better care of the character, but those are the risks.”

The experience did not deter him from superhero projects. He currently stars in Disney Plus’ Marvel series moon knightwhose finale arrives on Wednesday (May 4).
