Oprah Winfrey owns 1,000 acres on Maui where wildfires are raging

Deadly fires burn on Maui, the Hawaiian island where Oprah Winfrey owns approximately 1,000 acres of land. She also has a home there, but has not spoken out since the flames broke out.
Fires burned across the island, but were worst in the beach town of Lahaina in West Maui, where at least 36 people died after fires swept the area.

Oprah Winfrey’s house on Maui
The American TV host owns a huge farmhouse in Kula, an upland district that stretches across the “uplands” that encompasses the west-facing slopes of Haleakalā.
It was her personal trainer and later real estate manager, Bob Greene, who gave her the idea of buying property on one of the Hawaiian Islands.
She loved the weather, mountains and sea, so she found home in the remote hill country and renovated the sprawling white house.

The former equestrian farm is a whopping 4,300 square feet with three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms.
The 69-year-old stripped the house down to its basics, installing French doors throughout and adding a porch that wraps around the entire home.
You can see pictures of the house at Oprah’s websitebut this is how it looked before the renovation:

She owns acres of land
Last year, Oprah Winfrey bought a whopping 870 acres of land on the Hawaiian island that reportedly cost a total of $6.6 million.
She bought four agricultural parcels in Kula, a 520-acre property for $3.89 million and another 330-acre property for $2.47 million.
In late 2022, she also acquired two 10-acre lots for $100,000 each, bringing her total acreage to approximately 1,000 acres.
It’s not clear what she plans to do with the land, but Maui Councilor Yuki Lei Sugimura has praised her for keeping it “undeveloped.”
“Land is valued here, as you can imagine,” she said told KITV4. “I wish we had more people like her buying land considering we’ve just been inundated with a lot of development and tourism.”

Wildfires devastate Maui
Wildfires, made worse by high winds from Hurricane Dora, are raging across Maui and have sadly claimed at least 36 lives.
On Wednesday (Aug. 9), fires ravaged the port city of Lahaina and its surrounding areas, burning neighborhoods.
Homes, businesses and cars were all destroyed and people were forced to jump into the sea to seek shelter from the flames and smoke.
There are fears that the popular banyan tree, a giant tree that is a world tourist attraction, may not survive the fire either.
