Olive Garden may end its ‘Never-Ending’ pasta promotion

(NEXSTAR) – Olive Garden may have a different definition of “never ending” than the rest of us.

Rick Cardenas, president and CEO of Darden Restaurants, said on a recent earnings call that Olive Garden is considering ending its Never-Ending Pasta Bowl promotion, which previously allowed customers to attend Get unlimited portions of pasta for a fixed price.

However, the promotion itself has not been offered at Olive Garden restaurants since 2019, prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cardenas, speaking on an earnings call earlier this month, said the promotion’s two-year absence had had no negative impact on sales and it was no longer needed to attract customers.

“So we decided to reduce our reliance on the Never-Ending Pasta Bowl this year because we don’t need to increase the volume of our restaurants,” said Cardenas, who will also replace current CEO Gene Lee. at Darden said in May 2022.

“When we think about why we have a better performance… it’s productivity,” added Cardenas. “We just get better at serving diners when they come to the restaurant. Our upcoming business is still going strong, which is a very productive business for us.

“But as we expected, we don’t know if we’ll bring and when we’ll bring the Neverending Bowl of Noodles back because we have a never ending abundance every day with this dish. Our never-ending first,” said Cardenas, referring to the restaurant’s never-ending soups, salads and sandwiches.

Among other highlights from the call, executives confirmed that Darden restaurants will increase the minimum hourly wage to $12 per hour by January 2022, a year before the January deadline. 2023 that the company originally planned.

Darden, the parent company of Olive Garden, also owns Longhorn Steakhouse, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, and The Capital Grille, among other brands.
