Officer under 2 taken to hospital after Raleigh police were involved in crash en route to shooting call, officials say

RALEIGH, NC (WNCN) — A Raleigh police officer and another person were taken to a hospital after the officer’s SUV was involved in a wreckage Monday night en route to a shooting call, police said.

The call to shoot was reported just before 6:25 p.m. on Offshore Drive and Battle Bridge Road in Raleigh’s extreme south-east, according to Raleigh Police.

Nobody was injured in the shooting.

An officer driving a police SUV to make the call was involved in an automobile accident at the intersection of S. New Hope and Rock Quarry streets, about two miles from the call, police said.

The police SUV and three other cars were involved in the accident, which blocked part of the intersection.

Officials at the scene of the accident said the police SUV turned on its lights and siren when the wreck happened.

The officer was taken to a nearby hospital for a check-up, police said. Another person involved in the accident was injured and also taken to a hospital.

The extent of this person’s injuries is unknown.

Further information was not available.
