Obama says US is ‘paralyzed’ as Texas shooting resembles Sandy Hook

Barack Obama paid tribute to the 19 children and two teachers killed in a reckless massacre in Uvalde, Texas, after a gunman opened fire on Robb Elementary School on Tuesday.

Obama – who was US President from 2009 to 2017 – shared a poignant note on social media highlighting the chilling echo of the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting that killed 26 people.

“Across the country, parents put their children to bed, read stories, sing lullabies — and in the back of their minds worry about what might happen tomorrow after they take their children to school or to a hospital grocery store or other public store space”, Obama tweeted.

“Michelle and I mourn with the families in Uvalde who are suffering pain no one should endure. We are angry with them too.”

Obama commemorated the tragic massacre that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012 while he was President.

In 2013, then-President Obama accused Republican senators of prioritizing politics over safety after they voted against changing the background check for firearm purchases.

Obama, who made gun control a key goal of his administration after the Sandy Hook shooting, called Congress’ failure to act “a pretty shameful day for Washington.”

Uvalde’s shooter has been identified as Salvador Ramos (18). According to officials, he shot his grandmother before walking to the elementary school with two assault rifles around 11:32 a.m. local time.

The crime spree took place just two days before the end of the school year, sending parents on a mad search for their children.
