NYPD van fatally hits man in Brooklyn: police officers

A police car fatally struck a man who is believed to be homeless in Brooklyn on Thursday night, police officers said.
The marked NYPD van was traveling west on the Eastern Parkway near Schenectady Avenue in Crown Heights just after 8 p.m. — with its lights and sirens on — when it struck the 53-year-old man standing in the median, cops and officers sources said.
The victim was believed to be homeless and a beggar when the van struck him, police officers said.
He was taken to Kings County Hospital Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The van, which is assigned to the 73rd Precinct, carried two police officers and four prisoners, according to police sources, and drove to central booking.
None of the occupants were injured.

The victim was not immediately identified and was awaiting notification from the family.
