NYPD Nifty 50 pickpocket David Mickens arrested again

He just can’t keep his hands to himself.
A prolific suspected pickpocket who once starred in the New York City Police Department’s card game “Nifty 50” of the Big Apple’s biggest subway criminals has been arrested again this week in two other robberies, police sources said.
Darin Mickens, 55, who has more than 60 arrests on his criminal record, was arrested Tuesday at a groundbreaking rap at the Chambers Street J station and then charged with grand larceny for the separate Brooklyn robberies.
Last month, Mickens was allowed out of Manhattan Criminal Court after being hit by two previous robberies – only to allegedly steal another bag from behind the courthouse less than an hour later, according to court documents.
In the latest cases, Mickens was accused Tuesday of stealing a wallet from a domestic help who was picking up medication for one of her customers at the Sunway Pharmacy in Sunset Park in Brooklyn on Nov. 8, sources said.
Two days later, Mickens allegedly stole a wallet from a straphanger’s backpack on a subway at Flatbush Avenue and Fulton Street, according to the sources.
“This guy has been arrested 13 times so far this year and has been harassing hard-working New Yorkers at a time when they can least afford it,” a law enforcement source told The Post.

“At what point will the system start protecting hard-working New Yorkers instead of hard-working criminals?” the source said. “So much for supervised release.”
Repeated grand larceny charges against Mickens in the past do not qualify for bail under the state’s controversial 2019 criminal justice reforms — although prosecutors have tried unsuccessfully to peg him to a loophole.
As a result, Mickens was continuously released without bail but under supervision.
He was awaiting his indictment on Wednesday.
