NYPD detective discharged from hospital after helicopter crash

An NYPD detective has been discharged from hospital eight days after surviving a horrific fall from a helicopter while training at the Queens Police Academy.

Detective Michael Black beamed and waved to well-wishers as he was wheeled out of Jacobi Medical Center on Friday, according to video of the heartwarming scene.

Black is fortunate to be alive after falling from the helicopter during training on December 1 at the police academy, clinging to a rope that was unsecured.

The demonstration was part of a conference of the NYPD hostage negotiation team.

The fall “broke his leg in half,” police said.

Video of the fall, made available to The Post, shows the officer grabbing a rope to slide out of the helicopter around 11:20 a.m

But the rope either came loose or was not attached to anything, throwing the officer to the ground from an apparent depth of 15 or 20 feet.
