NYC man arrested for alleged stabbing in Hell’s Kitchen, cops say

A man was arrested late Wednesday for allegedly stabbing a man in a hateful Hell’s Kitchen attack, police officers said.

Konrad Pielak, 29, who lives in the neighborhood, approached the 24-year-old man at West 44th Street and Ninth Avenue around 12:15 a.m. Friday and said, “I hate Turks,” according to police.

He then stabbed the victim in the torso with an unknown sharp object, police said.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.

Pielak fled but was caught up by police around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, authorities said.

A Midtown North NYPD officer spotted Pielak, recognized him, and took him into custody, police said.

Police were told that around 12:15 a.m. on Friday, April 15, 2022 near West 44 Street and 9 Avenue, a 24-year-old male victim was approached by an unidentified person who made anti-national remarks to him.  The person displayed an unknown sharp object and stabbed the victim in the upper body.  EMS responded and transported the victim to NYC Health and Hospitals/Bellevue in stable condition.  The person fled north on 10 Avenue on foot.  The NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force investigation is ongoing.

He was charged with assault and threats, both as hate crimes, and serious harassment based on race or religion, police officers said.

According to police, Pielak has two prior arrests, one for assault and one for robbery.
