‘Not the answer like Richarlison’: Stevie Nicol tells Tottenham not to sign 108 international player

Stevie Nicol has instructed Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur to decide against signing Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku.
At Tottenham, the search for a replacement for Harry Kane is underway after the club’s top scorer secured a transfer to Bayern Munich this summer.
Who will replace the England captain? Nicol says, “Richarlison isn’t the answer,” but neither is Romelu Lukaku, as he said ESPN.
On Sunday, Spurs fans got their first real look at the kind of football they will play under their new manager.
They had nearly 70% possession against a top-flight Brentford side, with Spurs playing with speed, attack and aggression.
With that in mind, Liverpool legend Nicol feels Lukaku doesn’t fit what Postecoglou is building because he fits a counterattacking side.

“Yeah, (I’d be surprised if Spurs signed Lukaku),” said Nicol. “Lukaku does well when teams counter. He showed his best performances in counterattack.
“If there’s one thing Spurs can’t do, it’s the counterattack. How does he fit in there? He does not do it. He’s not going to stick it out like Harry Kane. He won’t include everyone like Harry did. I mean, he just isn’t.
“Richarlison isn’t the answer, but Lukaku is absolutely not the answer.”

Lukaku is at a crossroads
Last season, the 108-appearance Belgium international who endured a World Cup to forget in Qatar endured a tumultuous spell at Inter, where he reached and lost the Champions League final.
He has since returned to Chelsea but he is not part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans as rumor has it he wants to sell him as soon as possible.
Lukaku’s career has recently been described as a “big mess” as he is at a crossroads in his career and the next step he takes has to be right.
